
Data indicates that the rise in at-home living is driven more by steep housing costs than by labor market conditions. A record number of young adults in the US were living with their parents last year, according to new data from Realtor.com, as expensive housing put independent living out of reach. One-third of young adults ages 25 to 35 — 25.2 million people — were living with their parents in 2025.
