West Coast Boeing workers donate $32K to St. Louis machinists on strike

ST. LOUIS – In a show of solidarity, Boeing workers on the west coast have raised donations for employees on strike in St. Louis.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Union Workers in Washington State (IAM Union District 751) have donated $32,000 to the IAM 837 strike fund.

“Our members in the Pacific Northwest know firsthand the power of solidarity,” said IAM Union District 751 President and Directing Business Representative Jon Holden via a news release. “This contribution is about standing shoulder to shoulder with our union family in St. Louis. Boeing can afford to do the right thing, and it’s time they come to the table and bargain in good faith.”

For more than two months now, around 3,200 St. Louis-area machinists have been on strike. Union workers have now missed five paychecks as a strike proceeds.

Boeing and the union continue to clash on wages, bonuses and retirement benefits. Boeing’s decision to hire permanent replacement workers has inflamed tensions and hardened the union’s resolve.
