D.C. Fire and EMS crews rescued the Smith family — two parents and their 1-year-old — after they got stuck in an elevator at the Woodley Park Metro Station.
The Smiths were visiting D.C. for the day from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to celebrate their son Uriah’s first birthday, which was last week.
After a day at the zoo, they decided to take the elevator when Uriah fell asleep in the stroller. When they got into the elevator, it stopped working with them and two other people inside.
“For me, panic set in immediately, but it only lasted about five-ish minutes, because everybody was so calm,” the mother said. “The other couple was so calm, we ended up being calm.”
Fortunately, the family was rescued, and now they say they have a fun story to tell the birthday boy when he grows up.
