Union staff member becomes Schenectady's first Poet Laureate

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The city of Schenectady has named its inaugural Poet Laureate. Union College program coordinator in the Office of Intercultural Affairs Adonis Richards was one of four candidates who applied for the position.

Richards was selected by a committee of community members and educators for this two-year unpaid position. He will facilitate four literary events and four educational programs with the city school district and colleges as a part of this commitment.

“I hope to continue the work Union does to bridge the gap between us and the Schenectady community as well as develop programming that teaches the importance of poetry and literacy,” Richards said in a statement provided by Union College.
