Thieves break into truck in Northeast Philly, steal frozen meat, police say

A truck driver trying to catch a little sleep after driving to the region from Nebraska was awoken by the sounds of a dozen thieves rummaging through his vehicle, stealing frozen meat in Northeast Philly, early Monday, police say.

According to police, at about 2:10 a.m. on Monday, a refrigerated truck driver, parked near the intersection of Norcom and Red Lion roads in Northeast Philly, was awoken after hearing a commotion in the back of his vehicle.

The driver, who asked to remain anonymous, told NBC10’s Lili Zheng that he was sleeping after making a long drive from Lexington, Nebraska, to hear the noise and he stepped out of his vehicle to find what he believed to be about 12 people –three people each in four separate vehicles — stealing pallets of meat from his truck.

When he came out of the truck with a baseball bat, the driver said, the thieves scattered “like cockroaches.”

An investigation, officials said, is ongoing.

And, NBC10 is working to learn more.
