TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A teen was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon following a shooting near a Tampa park, police said.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. near the intersection of East Cayuga Street and North 30th Street, according to the Tampa Police Department. Officers were dispatched after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.

Police said the victim, described as a girl in her mid-teens, was grazed by a bullet. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for what officers described as “minor injuries.”

Investigators were still working to determine what led up to the shooting Friday, but said preliminary details indicate the girl was among a group of 20 to 30 teens who were gathered at a nearby park.

Detectives believe one of the teens in the group fired a gun. Police said Friday night they were following “strong leads to identify and arrest a possible person of interest.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department’s non-emergency line at 813-231-6130.
