COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A new restaurant specializing in a popular Japanese street food is preparing for its grand opening on October 18. Tori Taiyaki in Colonie Center will serve up taiyaki desserts, bubble tea, and shaved ice.
Taiyaki is a tai fish-shaped cake, often filled with a sweet red bean paste and custard, or other savory fillings like sausage, cheese, or beef curry. At the grand opening from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids can participate in a fish-catching activity and get a free taiyaki with the purchase of a bubble tea.
“Tori Taiyaki means a lot to me — it’s a dream project that brings a little piece of Japanese street dessert culture to our Albany community,” Owner Sharon Chi said. “We wanted to create a fun and family-friendly spot where people can enjoy taiyaki, shaved ice, and bubble tea together. Seeing everyone’s excitement for the grand opening really warms my heart!”
