The Philadelphia Police Department is offering one of their building’s lobbies as a safe space for residents to buy or sell items from online marketplaces.
The 7th Police District Advisory Council took to social media to make the announcement and explained that there have been problems reported of robberies and assaults as strangers meet to buy or sell goods that were advertised on online marketplaces, like Craig’s List or Facebook Marketplace.
To combat this, the lobby of the 7th Police District in Northeast Philadelphia is now open 24 hours a day, every day, for residents to complete a transaction that started on an online shop.
The lobby is in the Municipal Building at Bustleton Avenue and Bowler Street with the entrance to the lobby located on the Wistaria Street side of the building.
The advisory council also wants to remind anyone looking to use the police district’s lobby that officers will not act as official witnesses and will not give legal advice.
The goal of the department opening their lobby is simply to offer a safe space for these transactions.
