A 36-year-old man was discovered dead inside of his car Sunday night hours after his parents told police they received calls from someone claiming to have kidnapped the man for a $10,000 ransom, NYPD officials said.
The man was found in Queens after his parents walked into the 106th Precinct to report the calls from the so-called kidnappers, police said. Officers went searching for the man and found him inside a Honda Civic parked near 123rd Street and 89th Avenue around 10:20 p.m.
The medical examiner’s office was working to determine a cause of death, but investigators said there were no obvious signs of trauma or physical harm done to the man.
Law enforcement sources said the parents received the ransom calls after posting photos of their son on Facebook because they believed he was missing.
Sources called the callers “scammers” and believe they were only pretending to have kidnapped the 36-year-old man.
