The LAPD said Monday the off-duty officer who died following a single-vehicle crash in the Santa Clarita area over the weekend was 25-year-old Bailey Magana, who joined the Department in 2021 and had been assigned to the Mission Division in the San Fernando Valley.
The Department identified Magana in social media posts.
“Officer Magana leaves behind a loving wife, three young children, devoted parents, siblings, and countless coworkers and friends who are grieving this unimaginable loss,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said in post on X (Twitter).
The crash happened early Saturday morning at the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Rd. and Cinema Dr. in Saugus when the Tesla struck a utility pole and caught fire, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
Magana died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Department said, and the circumstances and cause of the crash remained under investigation Monday.
An impromptu memorial with flowers and candles was placed at the intersection Sunday by family and friends.
