On Saturday, December 6, DC residents and visitors alike will flock to the vibrant Wharf district for a massive holiday celebration. Ice skating, ornament decorating, festive drinks, and holiday karaoke set against the glimmering Potomac River are just a few of the attractions for revelers and families to enjoy at the Wharf Holiday Celebration. Located just steps away from the National Mall, learn why the Wharf is the perfect setting to celebrate the Holidays, plus everything you can expect at this free and fun community event.

Holiday Boat Parade

A beloved DC tradition, the 33rd Annual Holiday Boat Parade will light up the Washington Channel once again. Each year, dozens of local boaters deck out their vessels with dazzling lights, ornaments, and over-the-top decorations before cruising down the channel in a sparkling procession. The sight of more than 60 boats gliding across the water, all shimmering with color and cheer, is truly one of the most magical moments of the holiday season.

Festivities kick off in the late afternoon with live music, family-friendly activities, and plenty of festive bites, leading up to the boat parade around 7 p.m. The evening culminates in a spectacular fireworks display that illuminates the waterfront, creating the perfect finale to a night full of holiday joy.

Festive Bites

No celebration is complete without delicious food and drink, and The Wharf’s holiday festivities deliver in a big way. Throughout the event, local restaurants and pop-up vendors offer a variety of treats that warm both hands and hearts. Sip on a rich cup of hot chocolate or a spiced hot toddy from the Corona Cheer Garden or grab a snack from one of the many outdoor stands serving up seasonal favorites.

The Wharf’s wide range of dining options—from cozy cafes to waterfront seafood spots—means you can enjoy a full meal or simply snack your way through the festivities. Whether you’re craving something sweet or savory, there’s a flavor for everyone to enjoy as the parade floats by.

Activities for all ages

The Wharf offers something for everyone, making it a true all-ages event. Kids can meet Santa and take photos by the towering Christmas tree, while families can get creative at ornament-decorating stations. Ice skating on the waterfront rink adds an extra touch of winter magic, and adults can join in the fun with festive karaoke, live music, and cozy fire pits for roasting marshmallows. The energy throughout the evening is warm, welcoming, and full of community spirit, perfect for creating new holiday memories.

Schedule of events

The celebration runs throughout the evening, with festivities typically beginning around 5 p.m. The boats make their grand entrance along the Washington Channel around 7 p.m., followed by the fireworks finale at 8 p.m. The event is open to the public and completely free to attend, though it’s recommended to arrive early for the best views. Boaters interested in participating can register in advance through the event organizers, but spectators are welcome to simply show up and enjoy the show.

For holiday festivities full of community, creativity, and plenty of cheer, join the party at the Wharf on Saturday, December 6th. To learn more about the celebration, visit Wharf D.C here.
