Tuesday is Veterans Day, and KAXE is sharing the story of how a traveling replica of a memorial honoring Vietnam veterans inspired a bigger project. As veterans started sharing their stories during the memorial’s visit, Operation: Service Story was born. “The oral history project is a partnership between United Way and the St. Louis County Historical Society. The aim is to gather stories of veterans and service members from the Iron Range and Koochiching and Lake of the Woods counties.”

As Minnesota honors Veterans Day, Gov. Tim Walz has issued an executive order aimed at providing food support to veterans. WDIO reports the order directs “the Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs to coordinate the development of a statewide Veteran Food Pantry Network. … The network would provide food support for veterans, service members and their families.”

Minnesota hemp business leaders say Congress’ proposed deal to reopen the government will hurt the industry. MPR News writes “a federal ban on hemp-derived cannabinoid products has made its way into negotiations to end the federal government shutdown. The deal introduces a cap of 0.4 milligrams of THC per container for hemp products, which local hemp producers say will decimate their businesses.”

Lakeland PBS has canceled a show due to federal funding cuts. Bring Me The News says “the PBS station based in Bemidji and Brainerd will no longer produce ‘Lakeland Currents,’ as it navigates a $1 million budget gap.” The show focused on news impacting central and northern Minnesota.
