So the Broncos’ injured second-year QB watched the AFC Championship Game from a suite at Empower Field, wanting to not draw attention to himself. And beyond a few shots on the CBS broadcast, the camera was instead trained on Nix’s replacement: 29-year-old backup Jarrett Stidham, a West Texas boy who rolled in for the first start of his Denver career in a cowboy hat. Come spring 2026, though, Nix will be back in a Broncos uniform and shoulder pads. A source confirmed to The Denver Post that Nix’s season-ending ankle surgery this past week will have a roughly 12-week timetable for recovery, and that doctors have pinpointed that Nix should be able to return to action by the Broncos’ organized team activities in late May.
