The Bears have lost their running backs coach — Eric Bieniemy is returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator. He’ll replace former offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, who has interviewed for both head coaching and coordinator positions around the league.Bieniemy’s move was seen as likely after the Chiefs requested an interview with him on Monday. The Chiefs knew all about him already — he worked for head coach Andy Reid from 2013-17 as running backs coach and 2018-22 as offensive coordinator. Chiefs players, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, have praised Bieniemy’s attitude over the years.Bieniemy joined Ben Johnson’s startup staff a year ago after a stint as UCLA’s offensive coordinator. He connected to the franchise through president/CEO Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles, with whom he worked in Minnesota and Kansas City, respectively.Monday, running back Kyle Monangai said Bieniemy “meant a lot” to him.“He kinda helped me to understand what it takes to be a great running back in this league and the amount of detail, the focus, the preparation and all those things,” he said.
