The Chicago Bears will face a tough test against the AFC North-leading Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, and they got bad injury news this weekend.
Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (groin) and running back Roschon Johnson (thumb) had already been ruled out for the game, but the Bears placed both players on injured reserve, meaning they’ll both miss several weeks of action.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that Edmunds will miss four-to-six weeks, and could return at the end of the regular season or in the playoffs.
In corresponding roster moves, the Bears signed running back Brittain Brown and linebacker Carl Jones Jr. to their active roster for Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.
The Bears also got bad news on defensive backs Jaylon Johnson (groin) and Kyler Gordon (calf), as neither player will be activated from injured reserve. Both players have been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game.
Finally, the Bears elevated tight end Nikola Kalinic and offensive lineman Jordan McFadden from the practice squad.
The Bears had already ruled out at least five players for Sunday’s game, as running back Travis Homer will miss the game with hamstring and knee injuries. Linebacker Noah Sewell won’t play as he deals with an elbow injury, and linebacker TJ Edwards is out with hand and hamstring injuries.
There are still a couple of bits of injury business to take care of prior to the Sunday game, as starting left tackle Theo Benedet is questionable with a quad injury. The Bears’ depleted secondary also has to wait to see if it will have Jaquan Brisker in the fold, as he’s questionable with a shoulder injury.
The Bears and Steelers will take the field at noon Sunday, with the game airing on CBS.
