Caltrans explained the lane reductions are necessary to ensure safety as crews continue with the 405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project. The $143.7 million initiative is designed to improve safety and mobility along the 405 between Van Nuys and Westwood as well as extend the pavement life, the state agency said.
People who travel to UCLA, Santa Monica and LAX are encouraged to use a different route or give themselves extra time to get to their destination. The LAX Flyway service will also be impacted by the lane closures.
Signage will be available to notify drivers about the detour route, Caltrans said, adding public transportation options are highly encouraged.
The overnight lane closures will last through early 2026, occurring every two weeks at different sections of the 405.
