First responders were called to the port around 9:28 a.m. on Nov. 26 for reports of a marine fire, officials said.

When the fire department got there, they went to work to put out a fire on a large container ship called the Chiquita Voyager from Libya, officials reported.

Firefighters said that they found the blaze was coming from the ship’s engine room.

Four men were treated by paramedics at the scene before each being taken to a nearby hospital, officials said.

Paramedics explained that a 23-year-old man was treated for airway burns before he was listed in serious condition.

Three others – 27, 29 and 38 – were each treated for burns to their hands, officials said.

It took three hours to place the fire under control and it is now under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
