Rising Latin singer fatally shot in Northridge

A 22-year-old woman who was fatally shot early Saturday while sitting in a parked car in a Northridge neighborhood was identified Monday.

The victim, Maria De La Rosa, was in the car with two other people around 1:25 a.m. on Bryant Street near Tampa Avenue when two men walked up and opened fire, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

De La Rosa was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

“She was the best, she was unique, she wanted to help everyone”, said the mother of the victim, Deyanira De La Rosa.

Police said the two others in the car have not been identified, and it remains unclear how seriously they were injured.

De La Rosa was an emerging Latin singer who performed under the name Delarosa. She released a song in August, and one of her recent Instagram posts suggested she had been working on new music.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators said the shooting may be gang-related, though the motive remains under investigation.

No arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear, according to the LAPD, whose Valley Bureau Homicide is handling the investigation.
