Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant serves as a team leader in the finance department and ensures that all accounting transactions are posted accurately and timely through reconciliation of accounts. The right person for this role will have an excellent ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities, strong reconciliation and research skills, knowledge of GAAP accounting and strong Excel skills. Must be willing to work overtime as required to meet various deadlines and must have excellent communication skills. Although not a direct supervisory position, this person will work with other team members, helping them to understand GAAP requirements and assisting them in improving their processes.

Essential Functions:

Assist Controller in month-end close process

Generate and post month end closing entries

Monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts in a timely manner, including researching the cause of variances and unusual transactions.

Assist Controller in compiling information for external auditors and tax accountants as prepared

Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of sales and property tax returns

Supervise sales tax and property tax audits

Research regulations and apply for tax licenses in complicated states

Act as informal leader of team providing assistance and direction in understanding GAAP requirements and process improvement

Special projects and other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No supervisory role.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or degree in business with equivalent accounting experience

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting

Strong knowledge of GAAP

Experience with accounting software; Microsoft Navision is desired

Experience with sales tax software; Avatax and rental software Avalara is desired

Proficiency in MS Office Suite with advanced Excel Skills necessary

Jet reporting skills desired

Required Skills:

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, time management skills

Proficiency in technical applications including MS Office Suite

Physical/Mental Demands:

Position requires a high degree of concentration to manage frequent interruptions while meeting strict deadlines. This position is largely a sedentary role, requiring use of typical office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and scanners.
