Miami New Drama opener tells of a mysterious photo album

Miami New Drama has unveiled its season lineup of new works, continuing its tradition of original storytelling.

This season will be anchored in world premieres at the Colony Theatre at 1040 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, reflecting Miami New Drama’s unwavering belief that new works emerging from communities like Miami are shaping the future of American theater, said Michel Hausmann, Miami New Drama’s artistic director.

“Our upcoming season is a testament to the power of theater to confront, connect and transform,” he said.

The season opens with “Here There Are Blueberries,” returning to the theater as a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Starting Nov. 13 and running through Dec. 7, the story is based on real events and tells of a mysterious album featuring Nazi-era photographs that arrived at the desk of a US Holocaust Memorial Museum archivist.

Starting Jan. 29, the world premiere of “English Only” is centered on an investigation of the political and cultural battles over language and identity that shook Miami in the 1980s.

On April 9, “The Zionists: A Family Storm” will hit the stage, exploring the intimate, familial fractures brought on by seismic political events.

Coming in the summer of 2026, “Todo Lo Que No Dije” will close the season. The Spanish-language premiere invites audiences into an intimate exploration of identity, belonging and the unspoken truths that define us. Driven by audience interaction, this theatrical experience promises laughter, reflection and connection.

Miami New Drama and Tectonic Theater Project recently announced a partnership with the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics to curate a series of post-show discussions with leading ethicists and scholars on the complex issues raised in the play to consider their relevance for today. These events are free and public regardless of having purchased tickets to the production.

“These plays span generations and geography, but they’re bound together by a deeper truth: they explore how we hold onto each other, and sometimes let go, when the world shifts beneath our feet,” Mr. Hausmann added.
