SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Firefighters were at the scene of a vegetation fire burning near the U.S.-Mexico border Saturday afternoon.
The Border 18 fire spread from 5-10 acres at around 2 p.m. Saturday to 60 acres within about an hour and was burning south of the community of Dulzura and Highway 94, Cal Fire reports. The fire had 0% containment and was burning at a slow to moderate rate of spread as of 4 p.m.
San Diego County Fire and Cal Fire Firefighters were battling the fire in steep and rocky terrain in a remote area off Marron Valley Truck Trail and Lupe Spur Truck Trail.
Cal Fire said 10 fire engines and three helicopters were called to the area, along with dozens of other firefighting personnel, and additional ground and air resources were called in to assist.
Alert San Diego reports there are no evacuations in place at this time.
