Chula Vista amusement park abruptly changes schedule, leaving families scrambling

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Sesame Place San Diego in Chula Vista made an abrupt announcement on social media that it’s transitioning to a new seasonal schedule. Sept. 21 will be the last day the park is open for the season until it reopens in spring 2026.

In a statement released by Sesame Place, officials said, “By focusing on our most popular times of year, we can deliver the best possible experience from the moment guests arrive until the moment they leave.”

“What the heck?” asked Cindy Wang. She and her family are season pass holders and take their 3-year old daughter once a month.

Frustrated parents took to social media to complain about having to reschedule flights, trips and plans they already booked for the holidays.

“I just wish they’d been more transparent,” said Wang. “It’s tough as a parent. They should at least give us a better explanation. “

In a statement, the park said all single ticket holders who bought tickets for that time frame will be refunded or offered tickets to SeaWorld San Diego at no extra charge. People can also use them for later next year. Season pass holders will receive “complimentary SeaWorld Fun Card valid through the remainder of the year.”

Sesame Place San Diego says all part-time, full-time and salaried ambassadors will be reassigned opportunities at SeaWorld San Diego.
